Frequently Asked Questions
WHO RUNS THE PROGRAM?
Academies @HOME is brought to you by Harvard undergraduates in Harvard Student Agencies.
HSA is the world's largest student-run business and the original Harvard start-up. Check us out on our website at https://www.hsa.net/.
Instructors are all current students at Harvard.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE ACADEMIES @HOME?
Any high school student (grades 9-12) is eligible for the program. We also accept high-achieving rising freshman. Unfortunately, we are unable to take any student under 13 years old. It is possible that we make other exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
IS THERE FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE?
We are working to bring The Academies by Harvard Student Agencies to students across the globe, regardless of background and experience. Financial aid is available on a case-by-case basis. Please fill out this form to apply for financial aid, and we will be in contact with you shortly.
DO I NEED ANY PRIOR EXPERIENCE TO ATTEND ACADEMIES @HOME?
The curriculums are designed to cater to those with all levels of experience. For programs that rely on prior knowledge like Pre-Med or Coding, we alternate an introductory and advanced course on a weekly basis; see the programs page for more information.
Are Prices lower in the online format?
The In-Person Summer Academies start at $800 per week per student, whereas the Virtual Weekend Academies start at $300 and the Virtual Summer Academies start at $400. We also offer bundles at discounted rates.
WHAT DOES THE TUITION COVER?
Tuition covers the cost of instruction, ranging from 16-40 hours depending on the program. It also includes around four hours of asynchronous material that students engage with. The summer programs also include keynote speakers that are Harvard-affiliated experts in the field.
WHAT DO THE ONLINE PROGRAMS INCLUDE?
We’ve reformatted our curricula for online instruction, cutting down 40 hours of instruction and activities to 16 hours for the Weekend Academies @HOME and 20 hours for the Summer Academies @HOME.
Despite the reduced hours, the program will still offer the same transformative experience that summer students traditionally receive: courses will be led by Harvard students, will feature a cast of wonderful guest speakers, and will offer every student the opportunity to explore a potential passion.
WHAT DO WE DO IF WE LIVE IN A DISTANT TIME ZONE?
We’ve done our best to pick times for the courses that are relatively accessible for students across the United States. Unfortunately, we are limited by the size of our classes and by the schedules of our speakers and instructors, so certain times may not be viable. Stay tuned for scheduling updates.
CAN I CANCEL MY ENROLLMENT IN A COURSE?
The student or guardian can cancel their course enrollment for a full refund up to two weeks before the start of the program.
If a cancellation occurs within two weeks of the start of the program, a refund of $50 will be issued to the original method of payment.
If there are extenuating and uncontrollable circumstances, this fee may be waived on a case-by-case basis. If you believe this applies to you, please contact us at email@example.com.
CAN I RESCHEDULE MY PROGRAM SESSION?
Students are welcome to reschedule their session, at no additional cost, to a later program date by reaching out to firstname.lastname@example.org, only if this occurs by the Monday before the originally scheduled session (that starts on Saturday).
Students will not be able to reschedule a session after the Monday deadline, and if you are unable to make it to the program, we can only provide a $50 refund in this situation per our cancellation policy. Students will have to repurchase the Academy on their new preferred date.
If you use a code from an organization you are not a part of or use a scholarship that is not your own, we reserve the right to refuse service to any customer.
