Our Mission:
Encouraging Literary Creativity

Today, the time we spend reading literature and creating our own works of written art become more and more difficult to find. Through the International Michael F. Cronin Literature Competition, we encourage high school students to take the time out of their busy days to reflect and write stories and poetry of their own. We also hope to give students the opportunity to be noticed by industry professionals and jump start their own creative writing careers.

Historical Poetry

"A good poem is a contribution to reality. The world is never the same once a good poem has been added to it. A good poem helps to change the shape of the universe, helps to extend everyone’s knowledge of himself and the world around him.”
— Dylan Thomas

History repeats itself. There lies so much value in reflecting on our past as well as our world’s past. Through the art of poetry, history can spotlight significant lessons and bring forth enlightenment. We encourage you to submit a poem that relays the history you define to be powerful. Only one submission is allowed per applicant. If you have any questions regarding submission guidelines, please feel free to reach out to our contacts provided below.

First place prize: $200
Second place prize: $75
Third place prize: $25

Historical Short Story

"Short stories are tiny windows into other worlds and other minds and other dreams. They are journeys you can make to the far side of the universe and still be back in time for dinner.”
― Neil Gaiman

We’re ready for your best work. We encourage you to be as creative as you desire in incorporating the historic lens in a short story of your own. We purposefully do not set a word count on this endeavor for you to freely explore the art of short story writing. Only one submission is allowed per applicant. If you have any questions regarding submission guidelines, please feel free to reach out to our contacts provided below.

First place prize: $200
